About Arkordia
Arkordia is an Edinburgh based service of experienced and fully qualified therapists. We offer low cost psychotherapy and counselling services to those on low incomes who live in the Lothians. A unique charity, our skilled team of volunteers are committed to the highest standards of safe and accountable practice.
Arkordia was founded in 2006 as a cooperative of therapists and became a charity in 2008. We are all fully trained and qualified in our disciplines. These disciplines include Person Centred Counselling, Gestalt and Core Process Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic therapy and Art therapy.
Arkordia is an organisational member of COSCA (Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies) and abides by their code of ethics. Individual members also subscribe to their specialist training and accrediting bodies with additional codes of ethics. Arkordia therapists abide by ethical practices that highlight the primacy of respect, understanding and attention to you.
All are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our History
Arkordia was founded in 2006 as a cooperative of therapists and became a charity in 2008.
Our Meaning
The word Arkordia has its roots in the Greek word “kardia” meaning heart, and the word “ark” which implies shelter and refuge. The combination of these two words embraces the philosophy of Arkordia.
Our intention is that counselling, psychotherapy and creative therapies offered are from the heart and provide a safe place for people to grow and become more themselves.
